To integrate Claude Duet into a Shopify eCommerce, treat it as the proactive assistant of the founder or the eCommerce manager, and keep the work on the store itself with Claude and Claude Code. Duet watches the inbox, the calendar and the connected apps, prepares your morning, drafts, and asks before it acts. Claude connected to Shopify and Claude Code do the work on catalog, data and store code. You keep the approvals.
We are noprob agency and we work every day with agents built on Claude Code. The method below comes from how we organise that work: one role per agent, minimal permissions, a human on every action that cannot be undone. Duet was announced on 21 October 2026, so what follows pairs that method with what Anthropic has published.
What is Claude Duet, according to Anthropic?
Claude Duet is a separate Anthropic app in which Claude works as a proactive agent: it brings you what needs attention, completes the tasks you give it, keeps working when you step away, and checks with you before it acts on your behalf. Anthropic opened it as a research preview on 21 October 2026, in its announcement. The support article and the product page add the details:
- Each morning it reviews your email and calendar and sends a short brief (support article). During the day it messages you only when something needs you.
- You talk to it in one ongoing thread, by typing or by voice, on iOS, Android and claude.ai (product page).
- It runs on its own cloud computer, so it keeps working after you close the app.
- It reuses the memory, skills and connectors of your Claude account, and runs on Claude Opus 5.5. You cannot choose the model (support article).
- Larger jobs come back as editable files: briefs, financial models, decks, dashboards (announcement).
The difference from Claude is simple: Claude waits for you to open a chat, Duet reaches out.
Who can use Claude Duet today, and how much does it cost?
Today Claude Duet is a waitlisted research preview for Pro and Max subscribers in the US, and it is included in those plans at no extra cost. The support article says it is not yet on Team or Enterprise plans, and none of Anthropic’s announcement, support article or product page lists other countries. Access is tied to the email you used on the waitlist, and invitations go out in waves.
There is no separate price. Duet draws on your plan’s five-hour and weekly limits at the same rate as chat, and its background work counts too, so a busy Duet can use your limits faster (support article). Admitted users get one full limit reset, available until 30 November 2026.
What to do with this: if your account is eligible, join the waitlist with the email of your Claude account. If it is not, build the structure now. The assistant role can be filled by Claude with the Gmail and Google Calendar connectors while you wait, and the roles below stay the same when Duet arrives.
Does Claude Duet work with Shopify?
Yes: Anthropic names Shopify among the apps Duet works with. The announcement says Duet can set up, design and manage a Shopify store, and can use Shop Pay to check out at online stores. The support article lists Shop Pay as a partner integration, connected inside Duet. The pages we read do not list which Shopify permissions the connection asks for, so apply the rule we use on every agent: connect with the narrowest access first, read the permission screen, and widen only after a week of clean results.
Most of the value for a founder sits next to the store, where Anthropic documents connectors today:
- Gmail: customer and supplier threads triaged, replies drafted for your review.
- Google Calendar and Calendly: meetings with suppliers, agencies and freelancers scheduled around your week.
- Stripe: unpaid invoice checks and draft reminders (a partner integration in the support article).
- QuickBooks, HubSpot, Docusign: accounting, contacts and contracts prepared for your review.
- Slack and Google Drive: a summary of what the team asked, and the documents behind it.
- Dashboards and briefs: the product page shows an example dashboard of revenue, cash and customer issues refreshed daily. For a store, the same idea is a Monday file with the numbers and where each came from.
Duet does not replace Shopify Magic and Sidekick, which live inside the admin and know your store. It covers the part of your week that happens outside it.
How do you build a team around Claude Duet?
Give each tool one role and keep the roles apart: Duet is the assistant, Claude connected to Shopify is the analyst, Claude Code is the builder, and you are the approver.
- Claude Duet, the founder’s assistant. Morning brief, inbox, calendar, supplier and customer follow-ups, invoices, weekly numbers. It talks to you, not to your catalog.
- Claude connected to Shopify, the analyst. It reads orders, products and sales, answers questions and drafts. We cover the connection in Claude and Claude Code on Shopify.
- Claude Code, the builder. Claude Code reads a codebase, edits files, runs commands and connects tools through MCP. For a store that means code changes, feeds, redirect maps and scripts, worked on a copy and reviewed before anything goes live.
- Custom agents, for jobs that repeat. When a job runs the same way every day, such as checking catalog data or sorting returns, it becomes an agent with narrow tools. See AI agents for Shopify and how to build one.
- You and your specialists, the approvers. Every action that sends, spends, publishes or deletes ends here.
Why separate them? For the same reason the receptionist does not hold the keys to the warehouse. A role with one job needs few permissions, and a mistake stays small. Duet gets no write access to the store code; Claude Code gets no access to the inbox. The handoff between roles is a written brief in a shared document, never a shared login. This is the rule we apply in every project with agents.
What does Duet decide alone, and what do you always approve?
Delegate what is reversible and cheap to check, and approve yourself everything that sends, spends, publishes or deletes. Anthropic builds the first layer in: Duet shows what it is about to do and waits for your approval before sending a message, making a payment, signing a document or deleting anything (announcement), and some actions stay off-limits even with approval, such as trading securities or moving money between accounts (support article). Add your own layer for the store:
- Delegate: reading and summarising (inbox, orders report, reviews), drafts left unsent, meeting proposals, reminders, files for review.
- Approve every time: any message to a customer or supplier, refunds and discounts, price, stock and product changes, publishing a page or a change to the site, sending an email or SMS campaign, ad budget, any purchase, any signature.
- Never delegate: moving money, payment settings, staff permissions, app installs, passwords.
The logic is the one OWASP calls the fix for excessive agency: minimal permissions, a human approving high-impact actions, and authorization enforced outside the model. If a tool connects through a staff account, give it a dedicated role with only the areas it needs, built in Shopify’s permissions. The full threat model is in AI agent security on Shopify.
What does a week with Claude Duet look like for a Shopify store?
A good week gives Duet the preparation and keeps the decisions on your side. This is the routine we suggest for a founder or an eCommerce manager, written as what Duet prepares and what you decide.
| Day | Duet | You |
|---|---|---|
| Monday, the week opens | Duet prepares the brief on inbox and calendar, the supplier threads left unanswered, and a draft of the weekly numbers with the source of each. | You decide the priorities and which drafts go out. |
| Tuesday, customers | Duet groups the customer emails by topic and drafts replies for the common ones. | You approve each reply and every refund or exception. |
| Wednesday, catalog and store | Claude connected to Shopify proposes product-data fixes and Claude Code prepares the change on a copy. Duet reminds you what is waiting. | You review the changes and approve publishing. |
| Thursday, money and suppliers | Duet checks unpaid invoices, drafts the reminders and prepares supplier follow-ups with meeting slots. | You approve each send and make every payment yourself. |
| Friday, review | Duet writes the weekly summary, with what stalled and why. | You pick the two priorities for next week and turn every mistake into a written rule. |
The Friday rule matters most. An agent improves through the instructions you write after a mistake, not through the mistake itself. Keep one document with those rules and hand it to Duet and to Claude Code.
What are the limits of Claude Duet, written as safety rules?
Anthropic states the limits of the preview openly, in the [Limitations section](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17631495-get-started-with-claude-duet) of its support article, and each one becomes a rule for your store.
- It checks your accounts at set intervals, so something urgent can arrive between checks. Rule: urgent signals such as failed payments, stockouts or an offline store go to alerts built in Shopify and in Shopify Flow, not to the assistant.
- It can misread a thread or misjudge what is urgent. Rule: read every draft and every approval request before you confirm, as Anthropic itself advises.
- It reads content written by other people, and that content can contain instructions meant to mislead it (prompt injection): no defense is perfect, says [Anthropic](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17631495-get-started-with-claude-duet). Rule: a customer email never authorises an action, and approvals stay human.
- It shares your [plan limits](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17631495-get-started-with-claude-duet). Rule: big files and long jobs go to Claude Code on a schedule; Duet keeps briefs and triage.
- You cannot watch or take over its browser ([support article](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17631495-get-started-with-claude-duet)). Rule: for customer data and money, prefer a connector to the browser.
- On 23 October Anthropic added a [note to the announcement](https://claude.com/resources/articles/claude-duet): safety, privacy and security protections are still being developed. Rule: start with the lowest-risk jobs and give it only the customer data a task needs.
How do you start this week?
Start with access and roles, not with automation. In this order:
- Join the waitlist with the email of your Claude account, if your account is eligible. Meanwhile connect Gmail and Calendar to Claude.
- Write the role sheet: five roles, what each can read, what each can write, what each never touches.
- Write the approval list above and give it to Duet as its first instruction.
- Connect every app with read access first, and read each permission screen.
- Run the first week on drafts only: nothing is sent without you.
- On Friday, note what saved time and what needed a correction, then widen one permission.
If your store is not on Shopify yet, fix that first: the Shopify Launch Sprint rebuilds it in 14 days, and our guide to migrating to Shopify shows the steps. An assistant is only as good as the data behind it: on Cumini the tracking audit score went from 31 to 92 out of 100 around the migration, and tracking you can trust is the base any weekly report needs. If your store is already live, the AI Accelerator is 30 days one-to-one, with up to two quick wins switched on with you.
Frequently asked questions
What is Claude Duet?
Claude Duet is a separate Anthropic app in which Claude works as a proactive agent. It sends a morning brief, watches your connected apps, completes tasks and asks your approval before sending, paying, signing or deleting. It opened as a research preview on 21 October 2026.
Is Claude Duet available outside the US?
Anthropic’s support article describes a waitlist for Pro and Max subscribers in the US and lists no other countries or plans. Check the product page for updates and join the waitlist with the email of your Claude account.
How much does Claude Duet cost?
During the preview Claude Duet is included in Pro and Max at no extra cost. It uses your plan’s five-hour and weekly limits, background work included, so heavy use can reach the limits sooner.
Does Claude Duet connect to Shopify?
Yes, Anthropic’s announcement names Shopify among the apps it works with and says Duet can set up, design and manage a Shopify store. Connect it with the narrowest access first and keep refunds, prices, publishing and messages to customers under your approval.
Should Claude Duet run my store on its own?
No. Let it prepare, draft and remind, and keep every action that sends, spends, publishes or deletes under your approval. Anthropic asks for approval on messages, payments, signatures and deletions by design, and for a store we add refunds, prices and publishing.
What is the difference between Claude Duet, Claude and Claude Code?
Duet is the proactive assistant that reaches out with briefs and drafts. Claude is the chat you open to ask questions and, with connectors, read your Shopify data. Claude Code is the builder that edits files and runs commands in a project, such as your store’s code.
The Shopify Launch Sprint moves your store to Shopify in 14 days with our Custom AI System: a fixed calendar, a public price and 4 written guarantees.
